BCS Mandarin

Mr. Zhang
6-8 Mandarin Teacher
Zhijun Zhang is thrilled to be returning to Bullis for his second year, and is looking forward to providing students with more opportunities of exploring Chinese language and culture. His goal is to foster and strengthen students' curiosity and interest on learning Mandarin as a life-long learner.
Zhijun was born and raised in China. Zhijun received his Bachelor’s degree at Chengdu University of Information Technology (China), majoring in English. Before he came to the U.S., he worked in a vocational high school as an English teacher for four years in China. Feeling that he needed to challenge himself educationally, he applied to and was accepted into the Master’s program at Michigan State University, majoring in Teaching and Curriculum. As part of the Master’s program, he had the opportunity to work as a full-time Chinese teacher at the Oxford Middle School. He spent four years there in that capacity.
At Oxford, Zhijun was given the responsibility of starting its Chinese program. Working with the school curriculum specialists, Zhijun developed the Chinese curricula, levels one and two. As Oxford Middle School is in International Baccalaureate MYP school, Zhijun also developed the MYP assessments for the Chinese program. In addition to teaching students the Chinese language and culture in class, Zhijun hosted a Chinese homework club for students of all grade levels. He also served as the International Student Advisor for the school district working to promote the development of international programs with sister schools in China and to support international student learning and living in the community of Oxford.
He is very grateful for the opportunity to join BCS and to become a part of this fabulous team. In his spare time, Zhijun enjoys being with friends and likes all forms of outdoor exercises.
